Lloyd’s List Intelligence AIS
Our information is sought from a multitude of sources, including the world’s largest Automatic Identification System (AIS) network. More than 1,400 locations are covered globally by land based AIS receivers to provide live ship tracking and coverage of over 6,900 ports and terminals in 132 countries. 70 million positions are reported every day from 72,000 unique vessels.
As a result of Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s agreement with ORBCOMM Inc., vessel tracking is now enhanced with Satellite AIS reports. This means a distinct advantage in tracking vessels in deep water (over 100Nm from shore) – with more than 2,700 deep water vessels being reported every day. The integration of satellite AIS data with our existing land based AIS network provides unrivalled real time and historical intelligence on the deployment of the world’s commercial fleet.
We also verify ship movements via our exclusive agreement with the Lloyd’s Agency Network. Access to 700 agents and sub-agents combined with leading classification societies and registries around the globe, means our data sources are unrivalled.
A new and improved AIS mapping application has been fully integrated into the Lloyd’s List Intelligence website, and has been specially developed to improve your experience of our AIS ship tracking services. Using ‘Google style’ navigation, you’re able to use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out, while draggable maps functionality allows you to view adjacent sections instantly. You’re now able to open the map in a full screen pop out window, giving you a much larger and more usable map. The application graphics have been enhanced for this new version, resulting in a more accurate illustration of the landmass and improved coastline definition.
The powerful functionality allows you to study total AIS traffic patterns and filter by type, classification, flag, gross and deadweight tonnages. You can view both Seasearcher and our AIS application side by side, switching seamlessly between the two to link vessels, ports or casualties plotted on the map to the qualified ownership, characteristics, casualty and port records recorded on Seasearcher. Vessel, port and casualty positions are plotted against high definition costal maps and as you zoom in to take a closer look, electronic maritime charts are used to provide a detailed view of the port from which the AIS data was received. This enables precise identification of the ship position within each port, improving on the historic reporting of movements.
The AIS mapping application and Seasearcher can be accessed through all Lloyd’s List Intelligence channels, allowing you to quickly navigate from market intelligence to the movement data that underpins it.
